Yesterday I was at the beach and had a swim in the sea... in the middle of October.
I'm loving it!

Walking the streets...
Rugby
On Saturday I accompanied some French classmates to the bar in which I've so far watched every Springboks match to watch the semifinal between France and England. The atmosphere was great about 50 english and 80 french fans screaming and shouting (Swing low...; Allez les blues...). Even though I was supporting France in this match I wasn't too sad they lost as I had bet a couple of the guys that South Africa and not France would win the World Cup.
Not too happy Matthieu seconds before the final whistle.

On Sunday I once again went to my favourite rugby-watching-bar (accompanied by the French) to watch SA play the Pumas. Unfortuanetly I was the the only Springboks suppoter in the whole pub so that I wasn't too popular. However now we're just one step away from becoming world champion and I'm just one win away from winning a couple of beers.
Razzmatazz
My belated Birthday
Because I just had to much to do for University on my Birthday I had a couple of friends over on Thursday (Friday was a public holiday). After Sangria and Beer we still went out.My one flatmate:

Summer?
Today was the first day since I've been here that it rained. So that finally gave me the opportunity to go to Ikea and eat Hotdogs :)

What a city...
Now it has been three weeks since I arrived in Barcelona and all I can say is that it really is an amazing city.
The first three weeks I went to a language school to improve my spanish and I definitely think it helped a lot. It was also a great opportunity to meet a lot of people some of which will also be staying here for a longer period of time.
During my first week here the language school arranged accommodation for me. I stayed in a room in an appartement which I shared with an austrian from Vienna the appartment was near Placa Espanya and I really got on well with my flatmate.
From the day I arrived (2. September) I started looking for a room in a flat. I mainly used the internet to find offers. The first couple of appartements were very disappointing, small rooms some in very poor conditions for 350-400€, this was clearly more than I wanted to pay.
The fifth room I looked at was the room I moved into, so it really didn't take me all that long to find a place to stay. I moved into my room just a week after I arrived and so far I haven't regreted it fo a second.
The last two weeks I spent a lot of time at the beach (University starts on 1. October) enjoying the lovely weather here but unfortunately the last couple of days the weather hasn't been that great.

What is Gavin doing this year?
Welcome to my Blog!
As most of you already know I'm going to be studying in Barcelona for a year.
Thus the purpose of this Blog is to keep family and friends around the world well informed about what's going on in my life here in Spain.
Because all of you know me just to well I hope you will not expect poetry or saturday-night entertainment but hopefully pure curiosity will make you take a look and my Blog every once in a while.....
